During an independent study on leathercraft, I created different good such as wallets, bags, and a book cover to explore working with this material. The bag was designed based on an old botany bag. After creating the final draft of the new pattern, the pattern was laser cut out of full grain leather and handstitched together using waxed cotton thread. Two different wallet types were designed to test methods and different leather types. The book cover graphic was laser-etched into synthetic leather. The leather was glued to acid-free paperboard using archival PVC glue. A second-hand copy of Pride and Prejudice received an updated cover, complete with handmade paper end sheets.
